I went to a Seminar this week… (which I will do a post on later on)… and learnt some very interesting ways to think about ourselves… The two most interesting things I learnt were that Self-Esteem does not exist and that we have no right to be Motivated.
Self esteem… an interesting phenomenon really… the ones who want it don’t have it and the ones who have it don’t care… Therefore is it really a “thing” to be obtained? I think not… As soon as you think positively (by choice) you stop worrying about how you “feel” about yourself. It seems that what is really important is that we think positively. As soon as we start feeling by default we make up this idea called self esteem that somehow saves us from having to take responsibility for ourselves.
Motivation… We don’t deserve it… We are human… we live in a sinful and distracting world. We cannot expect to always want to do the things we have to do. If we waited to do things until we felt “motivated” they would never get done. However, when a job is nearly complete (even the worst job) we are suddenly motivated to finish; that is the ONLY time we can expect Motivation. There are some things we just don’t want to do and those things must still get done. So we WILL get them done by choice. Not feeling…
